The Death of the Modern Novel: Writers Becoming Branded Properties of Marketing Departments as the Entire Idea of a Writer Writing is Thrown Away by the Big Five corporate publishers who only care about branding, PR and fan clubs.
The Death of the Modern Novel: Writers Are Now Becoming Branded Properties of Marketing Departments as the Entire Idea of a Writer Writing is Garbaged by the Big Five corporate publishers who only care about branding, PR and the bottom line. There is no modern novel anymore. It has been killed by the corporate publishing multinational entertainment complex and replaced with Branded Writers writing Branded Novels Which PW and the New York Times Brand as well as contemporary literary criticism descends into follow the leader brandedness as well. The Death of the Novel: who knew it would end this way. R.I.P
Instead of writers writing, we have brands branding themselves in the publishing marketplace in order to compete for trivial PR reviews and NPR interviews. Gone is the old order, and in its place is the branded publlishing world, pushing branded writers who themselves accept the branding as part and parcel of the publishing "game" in hopes and attracting more readers and going home with a bigger paycheck someday.
It's over. The 21st century has seen the death of the novel, not by writers themselves, but by the corporate snakes who squeeze every marketing and branding trick they can find out of the writers themselves. By the 22nd century, there will no longer be this thing once called "a novel." It will be become brand, PR parades, and advertising.
