In  a recent interview with a US-based reporter for a piece he is doing on cli-fi for a literary journal, due to appear in early January, we chatted on the phone long-distance for about an hour the other day.

We spoke about many things connected to the rise and devolopment of cli-fi over the past few years, and he peppered me with a bunch of very good questions.

What the final interview piece will look like is up to the reporter and his editors and the headline they choose at the top of the page will be interesting, too. Subheadline, too.

So I wait now patiently for a link to the published interview, and while I have no idea what the final piece will look like, from the questions he asked me I think it will be a positive and forward looking article.

And since that website is seen by a large list of editors and publishers in the book industry, I think it will reach a wide variety of literary people and have a good impact in editorial offices. It might even lead to more news articles and opeds about this rising, rising new genre.

I sought out the reporter by email about three months ago, after finding his byline online with some very good recommendations and while he said he was interested in chatting about cli-fi for a story it wasn't until the first week of December that he finally got his assignment from editors at the journal. It was a lucky chance that they went for his pitch.

Now comes the waiting period between phone interview and publication.

Three weeks? A month? Late December? Early next year in January or February? We shall see.
Whatever the time frame, the phone call was fun and productive, and I'm looking forward now to the final edit.

The interview is due out any day now or in early January. Stay tuned.

This is what its like in the world of cli fi PR. One step at a time.

One interview leads to another. From the first big cli-fi story on NPR in april 20 2013 to this upcoming article in 2017, the meme keeps moving forward, attracting more and more novelists and screenwriters year by year.

Next cli-fi novels in 2017: Kim Stanley Robinson's NEW YORK 2140 set in, yes, the year 2140, a comic satire utopian cli-fi novel, coming in March .  AND Ian Woolen's tragicomic MUIR WOODS OR BUST coming in July.
