In appreciation of Amy Brady's hard work on boosting the fortunes of the cli-fi genre through her monthly cli-fi column and her podcasts and forum appearances, an appreciation...with a hat tip to her partner Village Voice film critic Alan Scherstuhl, a native of Kansas City and a graduate of the Annenberg School at the University of South California in Los Angeles, class of 2011.
Amy, native of Topeka, Kansas, has a PHD in Literature, received in 2013 from UMass-Amherst, with a Phd thesis titled "Staging the Depression:The Federal Theater Project's Drama of Poverty 1935-1939."
She also has a Masters degree from the Univeristy of Missouri - Kansas City. Her day job is as a manager of the grants and development at a major college in Manhattan. She and Alan got married in Topeka, Kansas in 2012. They are now a power couple in literary and cinema circles in New York. Bravo!

Amy Brady: What do you make of the recent spate of climate fiction (or “cli-fi”) that’s emerged in recent years? Do you think it’s a bona fide new genre of literature or a fleeting trend? Or something else?
Allegra Hyde: I’m guessing “cli-fi” is here to stay. What will be interesting to watch, however, is how this kind of fiction evolves alongside our rapidly changing world. Is climate-fiction going to become more and more darkly dystopic? Or is it going to serve as a vehicle for imagining solutions?

I'm writing with some good news for cli-fi and with a request. Next month, I'm launching a column at the Chicago Review of Books dedicated to cli-fi. I'll use the platform to conduct interviews, review recent releases in cli-fi, and discuss important conversations about the genre had by you and our colleagues in the field.
To start things off right, I'd love to run an interview with you. Would you be interested? If so, I would prefer to conduct the interview via email, if that's okay with you. It would ensure that all quotes are accurately captured.

Hi Dan,
Just saw the piece about you on LitHub and wanted to introduce myself. I work for a film/tv producer in NYC, and one of my jobs is scouting books and articles that would be great for adaptation. I’ve been wanting to find some good cli-fi to consider, perhaps you could assist me in this search as getting impactful stories to the screen seems to be your passion! If you could point me in the direction of recently published works that you’re most excited about, or know about unpublished stories in the manuscript stage, I’d love to know about them. Or if you’d be able to put me in touch with literary agents who are working in this space, or authors with works in progress, that would be excellent.
One recent book that I loved that I think falls somewhat in the cli-fi genre is Aaron Thier’s MR. ETERNITY. Have you read it? Would be very challenging to adapt because of it’s structure, but it excites me nonetheless.
Thanks for all the hard work you’ve put in in promoting this topic, I’m sure it will pay off some day soon!
