FTR, not actually a nihilist. More a pantheist. But hey, nihilism is an important moment to go through, and if you haven't yet, it can sure be scary.

Whatever this is, it's not a conversation. Too many tangled layers of perception/motivation. Happy to help foster something more constructive. In the face of environmental stresses, ecosystem resilience comes through #responsediversity. Can humans tolerate response diversity?

Sure. And a key part of adaptation is limiting the damage. Adapt to that you can't prevent, prevent that to which you can't adapt. That's what we fight for. A 2 degree world is not a 3 deg world is not a 4 deg world. So don't be appalled by those who organize while they mourn

Yay for Pete Seeger! Glad his "circle of song" still reverberates (through the Byrds to you). https://dotearth.blogs.nytimes.com/2014/01/28/pete-seeger-is-gone-but-his-circles-of-song-ring-on/ … Here's a gift he recorded for me and @Orion_Magazine:

exactly. now that we're seeing the climate shit regularly hitting the fan, the MSM, invested in business as usual, has basically in a year stopped airing the "uncertainty" denialist argument & started promoting "it's human nature" or "we're already doomed" story right and left.

350 is where we should be. 410 is where we are. 700 is where we're headed if we don't fight. So, fight. This seems straightforward to me.

Yikes. Splitting the climate/energy challenge into its component parts, one can actually save lives (e.g., working to end policies fostering settlement in climatic danger zones) & nudge energy choices. We're all doomed in the long run, duh. But it can be a very long run.

And you seem to have a concept of “living ethically” in our situation that I’m not understanding over twitter either.

I’m DMing you my cell phone #. Sat afternoon would be good or let’s set a time for next week. If you want, of course!
